Principal's Message

Dear CDS Students & Families,

Welcome to Community Day School for the 2017-2018 school year. I hope you had a fantastic summer and are as excited as I am to kick off another amazing year. Words cannot adequately express how honored and humbled I am to be the new Principal of the Alternative Education Center, which includes Community Day. I am fortunate to have spent the last four years in alternative education learning from CDS students, parents and guardians, and faculty and staff. I look forward to serving you as we work toward achieving our goal for all students to graduate ready for college and career!

We have high expectations for our CDS students as they navigate a computer-based instructional model with the support of their teachers. This blended learning approach affords students every opportunity to graduate with a high school diploma. Students have access to their coursework 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with an internet connection—so with hard work, determination, and motivation, every student can achieve success.

Community Day Parents & Guardians—you play an important role in the success of your student. We offer many ways for you to monitor the progress of your student so you can provide that consistent feedback and motivation they need to stay focused. The Aeries Parent Portal is an amazing tool available for you to monitor daily attendance along with grades and credits at the end of each quarter. Edgenuity progress reports and access to the parent portal will provide you with academic progress so you can view the quality and quantity of work your student is mastering on a daily basis. Together, Aeries and Edgenuity tools are a great resource for you to ensure your student is continually making progress.

It is vital that we all work together to make a high school diploma a reality for our students. Additionally, at Community Day, we are working toward success and improvement in the areas of attendance, behavior, and course completion. We invite all parents and guardians to join us for a variety of parent meetings and groups throughout the year! We truly cherish the relationships we are able to build with our CDS families.

The 2017-2018 school year will kick off on Monday, August 7th. School begins promptly at 8:05 a.m. every day and ends at 2:35 p.m. Students will receive their complete schedule during check-in. I’d like to remind students that you should not bring any personal belongings to school including electronic devices, notebooks, backpacks, pens, pencils, etc.

I’m looking forward to an amazing school year filled with promise, hope, and making our students’ dreams come true.
